What is Wushu?

Literally translated, “wu” is military, “shu” is art.  Wushu, therefore, means the art of fighting or martial arts.  It  has evolved from traditional Chinese martial arts.  Wushu has been modernized so that there is a universal standard for training and competing.  Emphasis is placed on speed, difficulty and presentation.  Wushu has become an athletic and aesthetic performance and competitive sport.
